IPS RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP DR. ARUNA MEHTA AWARD

Scholarship guidelines

The research scholarship award proposed by Dr.Shanker Iyer under the aegis of Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) , will benefit the postgraduates in the field of prosthodontics graduating in India. He donated Rs.11,00000.00 (Rupees eleven lakhs only) as a corpus fund to the Indian Prosthodontic Society and the per annum interest on this amount will be awarded to two prosthodontic post graduate students every year. Dr.Shankar Iyer instigated this award to honor his post graduate guide, late Dr.Aruna Mehta, a passionate and dedicated academician in the field of prosthodontics. The corpus fund and the interest on that should be used only towards IPS research scholarship Dr.Aruna Mehta award.

The Committee

The committee comprises of

  1. The 2nd Vice President (1 year)
  2. The Editor in Chief (3 years)
  3. Three (3) EC members for a term of 2 years and will be appointed by the Head office

Their role is to make sure that the Scholarship award procedure

  1. No bias in selection and evaluation process
  2. Conducted with highest level of confidentiality

The Jury

The jury would include the following 10 members of the Indian Prosthodontic Society

  1. The President (1 year)
  2. The Secretary (3 years)
  3. Two Permanent EC Members
  4. Dr. Shankar Iyer
  5. The 2nd Vice President (1 year)
  6. The Editor in Chief (3 years)
  7. Three (3) EC members for a term of 2 years and will be appointed by the Head office
  8. The Treasurer, IPS, would be responsible for the maintenance, accounting of the corpus fund, and dispersal of scholarship amount every year.

Assessment criteria for research scholarship award

  1. The research should be innovative & the research question should emphasize the novelty of the proposed research.
  2. The research project should be on the recent trends or material science related to removable, fixed, implant and maxillo-facial prosthodontics.
  3. The research project should exhibit direct clinical significance, & the results should not be extrapolative in nature.
  4. The methodology in conduction of the research will be given more importance for assessment.
  5. The research project should be conclusive and not just an innovative idea to be further explored.
  6. Limitations should not make the research project inconclusive.
  7. Research project should be conducted with standardised protocols and at a certified testing lab/facility.

Scholarship guidelines

  1. The research scholarships will be awarded to two Postgraduate students
    • 1st prize will be awarded Rs.30,000.00 (Rupees thirty thousand only)
    • 2nd prize will be awarded Rs.20,000.00 (Rupees twenty thousand only)
  2. The awardees can spend a week with Dr. Shankar Iyer in his practice at NJ as preceptors to receive 40 hours of CE credits ($1500 value). The awardees should pay for their travel, accommodation and other expenses
  3. This awarded scholarship has to be purely used for research purpose only
  4. The applicant should be an IPS student member
  5. The applicant if not awarded on the first attempt, can apply again in his/her tenure of post-graduation. However, the applicant cannot apply more than twice for this award
  6. The applicant will be the only author and he will be considered for the award. No additional authors or guides should be mentioned in the application.
  7. The filled in application along with other documents should be sent online @ [email protected]
  8. The received proposals will be screened by juries and only ten (10) will be short listed.
  9. The 10 selected applicants will present their research project at the National prosthodontic PG convention’s preconference course (PCC) day every year in front of the juries.
  10. The applicant to strictly adhere to 8 minute Powerpoint/Keynote presentation.
  11. Only two best research will be declared as winners on the criteria’s mentioned below
    • Study design
    • Methodology
    • Relevance with recent trends in prosthodontics
    • Innovation and clinical significance
    • Presentation of submitted data
  12. The results will be declared at the valedictory function of that PG convention
  13. The award should be received only by the awardee at the valedictory function. If the winner is not present at the time of announcement of the award during the valedictory function, he/she loses the award. It shall remain un-awarded for that year
  14. The award cannot be claimed by an authorized person or substitute
  15. The award cannot be transferred to the delegate in next position in absence of the winner at the valedictory function
  16. No parallel 1st and 2nd award or additional awards can be instituted in the IPS-PG convention for the best research project
  17. All decisions by the juries are final and any attempts by applicants to persuade the committee during the process will result in immediate disqualification
  18. The 2 recipients of the research scholarship (awardee) should submit the progress of research project every 4 months to the Editor in Chief.
  19. The study should be completed before the completion of the applicants PG program. The final report of the completed study with all supporting documents should be submitted to the Editor in Chief before completion of the applicant’s final year PG exam.
  20. It is mandatory for the awarded applicant to publish their research in any indexed journal within 2 years of the completion of the research project. The author should acknowledge in their article by mentioning that the “publication is the outcome of IPS Research Scholarship Dr. Aruna Mehta award”
  21. The guidelines could be subjected to revision in future, if needed

How to apply?

Postgraduate students should submit a research proposal (for example, a postgraduate dissertation synopsis or a research project) in 900 words in the following format:

  1. Statement of problem or background rationale
  2. Aim and objectives
  3. Methodology
  4. Results or proposed outcome
  5. Proposed analysis
  6. References

Documents required for submission

Postgraduate students should submit a research proposal (for example, a postgraduate dissertation synopsis or a research project) in 900 words in the following format:

  1. Document 1: Application form (Click Here To Download) (Annexure 1)
  2. Document 2: Title Page
    • Should be in MS Word, Arial font & size 14 with double spacing
    • The title of the research proposal preferably in PICO/PECO format
    • Should contain the name of the author, name & address of the institute, contact address, mobile number and email ID of the applicant
  3. Document 3: Undertaking (a scanned image or PDF): (Click Here To Download) (Annexure 2)
    • A letter to the jury of IPS research scholarship Dr.Aruna Mehta award should be sent on the institute letter-head signed by the student and countersigned by the Dean/Principal of the institute stating that the proposal submitted is of the research to be undertaken or underway (and not completed or published) with no plagiarism, no conflict of interest and have necessary ethical approval.
  4. Document 4: Research proposal
    • Should be in MS Word, Arial Font, Size 14 and double spacing
    • This document should not have the name of the author, their guide or the institute or any other data that reveals all of the above
